Cass Tech Hall of Famer
Kwame Kilpatrick
Former Mayor
City of Detroit
Kwame Kilpatrick says he was an average student at Cass Tech, but the exemplary high school prepared him for success at Florida A&M where he met his future wife, Carlita. The couple now have three sons, including twins.
After college, Kilpatrick went back home to Michigan and served as a state representative before running for mayor of Detroit. Initially considered a longshot, Kilpatrick gained momentum and enjoyed an impressive victory over the favored Gil Hill, becoming the youngest mayor (31) in Detroit history.
Kilpatrick comes from a prominent family as the links below attest to. Although he has the formidable task of rebuilding the nation's seventh largest city, in his words, it's time for Detroit to rise up "Right Here, Right Now!"
Update: On September 4, 2008, Kwame Kilpatrick agreed to resign from his position as Mayor of the City of Detroit amid allegations of scandal and corruption.
